Max & Kathy Garcia
In the year 2000 Max and Kathy Garcia–along with their children Sam and Melissa Garcia, created Salinas-based Garcia Boxing.
Max and Sam were the trainers while Kathy was the manager. The foundation of Garcia Boxing was to provide a “family” to both professional and amateur boxers. This was based on respect, nutrition, conditioning and training to achieve optimum success in their sport and their lives.
Prior to dedicating himself to shaping the careers of boxers, Max was a Head Start
teacher for underprivileged children. His love for the children and their families
was the foundation for his desire to help boxers, many of whom had challenging
backgrounds.
The Garcia family was known for their charity work, both in the assistance of local
children and via Garcia Boxing’s Celebrity Boxing at the Hyatt. The Garcia family
donated all proceeds to the Kinship Center Family Ties, a program dedicated to
keeping children with family members rather than streaming them into foster care.
Garcia Boxing has achieved great success in the ring with three No.1 world rankings
including Salinas Valley Sports Hall of Famer Jose Ceyala, Alvarez High graduate Ruben Villa IV and Top 10 ranked Jesus Rodriguez.
Garcia Boxing is world renowned for its generosity and its treatment of boxers as
“family.”
