Jackie Wayland

Jackie Wayland was at the top of her game from her freshman to senior year at Salinas
High and another four years at Cal Poly. At Salinas High she was the freshman, junior
and senior Female Athlete of the Year. During Jackie’s junior year she became only the
third girl in history to make the All-County teams in volleyball, basketball and softball
in the same year.

In volleyball, Jackie was named her team’s “Most Dedicated” player and following both
her junior and senior seasons was chosen to the All-County and All-CCS teams.
In basketball, Jackie was named team MVP her junior year while earning All-County
and All-CCS honors–a trifecta which she repeated as a senior. She also was named
MVP of Watsonville Tournament and was a Salinas Californian Player of the Week.

In softball Jackie started her four-year varsity career as a starting infielder–one at first
base and three at shortstop. As a sophomore she was second-team All-CCS and as a
junior was selected All-County, and All-CCS. As a senior, Jackie was All-County, All-CCS,
and MVP of Salinas High’s Division 1 championship team.

Overall, Jackie earned 10 prep varsity letters, was selected to 6 All-County teams and
seven All-Central Coast Section teams. Following her senior she was named the U.S.
Army National Reserve Scholar Athlete. Her travel softball team finished 7th in the
1996 National Tournament in Chattanooga, Tenn. At Cal Poly Jackie was a four-year
starting infielder and at the end of the 2023 season was listed amongst the career
offensive leader in four different categories.
