Gina Miller Uccelli

Considering what Gina Uccelli did off the volleyball court it shouldn’t be surprising what she did on the court. She climbed the ladder from being a student, an athlete, coach, teacher, assistant principal and finally Superintendent of the Washington Union School District. She attended a volleyball camp at Hartnell College as a high school sophomore and by the time she graduated from Salinas High she ran the camp. After a standout volleyball career at Salinas High (All-League as a junior, All-NorCal as a senior) and Hartnell College (first team All-Conference) she was a walk-on at St. Mary’s-Moraga as a sophomore. The next year she was the starting setter for a volleyball team that went 30-2 and won the NAIA championship. As a senior Uccelli was named All-American In 2007 her 1985 championship team was inducted into the St. Mary’s Hall of Fame. She also spent several years coaching. In 1988 she was the head track and volleyball coach at North Monterey County and eight years later coached a perennial power Notre Dame volleyball program before being named assistant principal at Salinas High. She then was part of the Salinas coaching staff that guided the school’s 2004 volleyball team to it first CCS title.
