EJ Rowland

EJ Rowland’s incredible basketball career started at Palma High, had brief stops at CSUDominguez Hills, then one year at Hartnell College where in his only season was Coast Conference Player of the Year and first-team All-State.

He was recruited by St. Mary’s of Moraga and was starting point guard for two seasons, helping the Gaels to a 25-9 record and an NCAA Tournament berth – the first of coach Randy Bennett’s career.

In his two seasons at St. Mary’s he started in 57 of 63 games, averaging 12.1 points while shooting 42 percent from the field.

He started his pro career with the Florida Flames – an NBA development league in Fort Meyers.

Overall, he had a 20-year pro career that spanned four continents (North America, Australia, Europe, Asia) and 17 teams. The American-born Bulgarian joined the St. Mary’s coaching staff in 2024 and in April of 2026 joined the coaching staff at Arizona State.

His career highlights include:

• 2013 VTB United League (the premier league in Russia) Scoring Champion and Regular Season MVP
• 2013 Member of VEF Riga – VTB United League Champions
• 2013 VTB United League Playoff MVP • 2019 VTB Hall of Fame Inductee (inaugural class)
